Ventnor Beach

Ventnor beach
One of the Isle of Wight’s best kept secrets Ventnor beach
is only a ten minute walk from the cottage, and is the ideal place
for a relaxing day out especially if you have young children.
The beach is in front of a parade of shops that consist of a small
amusement arcade, two gift shops and three cafes. Our favorite is
the 'Tides Cafe' who serve up a great
pot of tea, and they're always happy for you to take a tray on to
the beach and return later. You can also hire a beach hut for the
day, these quaint Victorian huts can be hired on a daily basis from
the beach attendant however if you would like to pre book you can
try calling in advance Blakes Longshoreman Tel. J &
F Blakes (01983) 857186 Evening (01983) 852723.
The beach is not really suitable for water sports as there are hidden rocks and the tide can be very strong. However at low tide a myriad of rock pools and sand banks are exposed, perfect for little ones to explore.
During the summer season Ventnor beach is litter picked on a daily basis. The Marine Conservation Society also undertake cleaning at this area, which enable them to monitor the waste and research its origin. Emergency equipment such as Lifebelts and an emergency telephone are strategically located along the Esplanade in order to ensure safety at any time of the year. The Inshore Rescue is also close at hand and are always on call by the Coastguard.
A final note, it's downhill all the way from the cottage so it's a bit of a trek on the way back, if you've young children with you it might be worth driving and parking near the seafront.
Enjoy!
